_iTunes Upgrade…Not So Fast

It is probably because I am on a PC but my experience with an “Apple” product was very much like a typical Windows software installation.  Apple should not talk any more since they are becoming what they make fun of (Microsoft).

My son was visiting a web site that needed the new QuickTime plugin so he downloaded it.  Great.  No problem there.  Then I went on the computer to synch my iPhone with iTunes to get some new music (I know..it is just a really cool phone).  When low and behold I get an error stating I cannot use this version of iTunes since I have a new version of QuickTime.  Ok.  No big deal.

How can I upgrade?  I can’t.  iTunes won’t let me even open it up.  I tried to “repair” the installation and that did not work.  I “unistalled” iTunes, downloaded the “new” version, installed it and everything should work…right?  NO.  Same error.  Cannot use this version of iTunes with the version of QuickTime.  What’s up Apple?  So I uninstalled iTunes AND QuickTime, and installed it AGAIN.  All is fine now.

That sequence of events happens more often than no with Windows software so I am a little taken back by the snooty upity company called Apple that it happened to them.

_Tech Challenge

This post got me thinking of creating a fun Tech Challenge for my team here at work.  Since we consist of Developers, QA and IA, I need to make it fair for all to enter.  I am allowing 4 categories:

Web

Mobile

Process

Content

Each of which can be fun.  They all need to have some bearing to the business that we are in or can help an internal need we may have.  Someone just can’t create a blog and enter it in (like Drew5.net).  Prizes will be awards..or I should just say “a” prize will be awarded.  Still working on the rules.  Look forward to the actaul announcement.

_Patriots Sneak One

If you have not seen the Monday night game with the Bills Vs. the Patriots then you will need to know that the Pats are lucky.  Tom Brady had a pretty good game.  He threw for close to 400yds but until the last few minutes of the 4th quater his team was not leading in the most important category.  Points.

Here is my take.  First off it is week1, so I am not surprised by anything.  Secondly, Brady played in the preseason but has not played in ‘real’ over a year.  Sure he is tentative, nervous about his knee, rusty…but when it mattered the most he got the job done by getting 2 scores in under 2 minutes.

I am not concerned about Brady.  He is and will be fine.  His receivers need to ‘catch’ the ball.  But…there are ALOT of new faces on D.  No more Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, Seymour etc.  Our corners are new, linebackers new and sprinkle in some rookies, it makes you not as sure was you once were.  The line is still solid, Jarvis Green, Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren are pretty damm good but it is the linebackers that were always our strength.  Adalius Thomas needs to step up and be a beast.  Jerod Mayo needs to keep being what he is..real good.

Let’s wait until week 4 before we make any judgements.

_Finally Got My Blog Going and Twitter Hooked Up

My blog has been down for some time now.  I was hosted with 1and1.com on a .NET platform using BlogEngine.NET.  It was pretty cool.  No real complaints but I work in .NET all day so I am pretty fluent with it.  There has been more buzz re: PHP and WordPress so for about a year now I have been playing with both.  What better way to gain skills in something then to try to use it almost every day.  So I moved from 1and1.com over to GoDaddy.com to save a little money and work in PHP more.
So far so good.  At some point I will load my old posts but no rush.  Now just integrating my Twitter with my blog.

_The Beatles: Rock Band – My Review

I have been playing Rock Band for about a year now.  I started off with Rock Band 2 and had a blast.  Rockin’ out to some all time favorites and pretending you are good at singing…how can it get any better.  Well, take that fun and add in some Beatles and you get it.

The moment I heard it(The Beatles Rock Band) was coming out I was excited.  A few reasons, I like The Beatles (who doesn’t) and the songs are a bit more family friendly and party friendly.  It is hard to rock out with the kids with Judas Priest.

My first impression of the game was WOW.  They got it right.  I am not a ‘fanatic’ of the group, I have not followed them every step of the way, but you can tell they just got it correct.  From colors, to pictures, to transitions, everything was perfect.  The intro sequence to the game was something you would see on VH1.  Totally awesome.

The game play is the same as Rock Band so I wont go into that, except Story mode gives you a little more purpose in playing the game.  Following in the footsteps of The Beattles from Liverpool to Shea Stadium to beyond.  That is pretty neat.  Photos and clips mixed in make it over all an awesome experience.

I am extremely happy and pleased and can’t wait until tonight to play again.
