Farewell to First Social Media Site

I have been meaning to blog out about this for a while now, but quietly one of the first true Social Media platforms was killed off this week.  To quote DownloadSquad who quoted Obi-Wan “we felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced”.

GeoCities was known for it terrible home pages.  When I say terrible, I mean really bad.  But, before blogging and Flickr and Facebook this was the way you shared your information, your stories, your photos.  It took off for a bit but was pounced upon by other communities that did a better job.

Goodbye web 1.0 you will be missed but not forgotten.
